New Cover Bands Versus Old Cover Bands

There are so many cover bands out there that it may seem impossible to choose! Where do you start in your search for the perfect wedding or party bands?

The best place to begin your search for band hire is via an entertainment agency. Here, you will find pre-vetted (checked) cover bands that will have been scrutinised for quality of sound, image, song choice, customer feedback. This means that band hire from an entertainment agency will give you a certain element of quality control. However, always check out the agency as well. There are many unscrupulous agencies so always check how long an entertainment agency has been established and if they work from a legitimate office. It sounds obvious but you would be surprised how many ‘bedroom’ agent companies exist... and, would you really want one of these part-time sharks dealing with one of the most important days of your life?

So, look at the different party bands an agency has on their roster and then decide which ones you like. A general covers band will perform hits from the 1960s to present day, and ...
... these are the style I am referring to here. You will see a lot of choice still from the listings, but at least you know there is now going to be elements tried and tested such as reliability, professionalism, quality equipment etc.

One thing to ask yourself though when looking at the cover bands is what kind of image you are trying to create with your event and band? There are what we term old cover bands and new cover bands out there. By old, we mean that they have been kicking around the block for quite some time, and whilst they may have been fantastic in their day it probably won’t be the look you are after if you want to create a young and funky event.

Sometimes, older bands can also rely quite heavily on songs from their heyday... for example, whilst they may perform the odd up to date number they mainly perform 70s Disco. In all honesty, what use is that to you if you weren’t even born in the seventies! This is why it is always worth checking out party bands customer feedback, to see what kind of events the bands have performed at before, and also their set-list. Ask them to break this into decades for you if they have not already so that you can see where they lean more heavily.

New cover bands on the other hand are younger, more up to date, and, although young, still highly experienced. New cover bands may be young but they should still be able to demonstrate where they have performed before and their level of ability.

Band hire can be tricky but by speaking to a reputable entertainment agency you will be set on the right path as they should know the right questions to make sure you hire the perfect entertainment.
