For many people, especially the older ones, the truth can be painful: no matter how many crunches and diets that you can do, you can never remove loose skin and fat hanging on your midsection. Especially for those who have undergone rapid weight loss as well as pregnancy, the skin's natural elasticity has been stretched to its limits resulting to your midsection to look unappealing and all the work you have done to have a perfect body will be ruined. To trim such a nasty flab, abdominoplasty is done to flatten the belly and reveal your true body.

Candidates for tummy tuck surgery
If you have vices, sad news is that you might not qualify. Non smokers are the best candidates who already have good health and have attained the desired weight that they have. Remember, this is not a weight loss surgery. It will just reveal your body by removing the excess skin that is present in your belly. This will make you look trim. Lose weight? Only at a certain extent but this is not a miracle procedure to become thinner. Most of the patients are women and sometimes, the procedure comes bundled with liposuction to make the proportions ...
... more appealing.

Before the procedure
The surgeon will have the patient undergo certain laboratory tests. This is a standard procedure to determine the safety and health condition of the patient before undergoing the procedure. If he or she is taking medications, the patient has to tell the doctor. Adjustments or total cessation from drugs might be demanded by the doctor since it could result to adverse effects.

After the procedure
The patient will have a bandage on his or her abdominal area and extends just around the pelvic area where the incision was made. In some cases, a tube will be placed to prevent the accumulation of fluids inside. Depending on the surgical procedure, the patient might return to the doctor to have the stitches removed but for less invasive ones, the sutures used will probably be those that will dissolve and fade away in time.

Recovery
For the first week, you will definitely not be able to stand up or move comfortably. Do not stretch your body as yet or anything that the doctor did not say since it could result to bleeding and problems. The abdominal area will feel weak at this point as they regain from the trauma caused by the surgery. The overall recovery can reach to a month. Any strenuous activities should be avoided and light exercises might be done after 3 weeks. It all depends on the kind of procedure done and how well you recover.
