How To Found Your Own Company (even If You Aren't Business-inclined)
The moment I really "got" what it meant to be a businessperson will always be stuck in my mind. I'd recently graduated from a university and although I had a great concept for a business, I also had several obstacles, such as not having money. I remember what my father, a long-time entrepreneur, said to me. He told me, "Being a businessperson isn't very hard. Basically do the greatest job you can. If things don't pan out the way you would like them to, just try another thing."
An entrepreneur is the ultimate risk-taker. She'll start with a concept and work with it until it comes to fruition, then be subject to any consequences, good or bad. This person will fail or succeed based on her ability to lead, make good decisions, and build a team. She is generally an innovator, and is motivated by a dream or ambition.
To me, this pal I have is fully capable of being a businessperson, especially considering his trendsetting personality. Unfortunately, he didn't think he had the gumption to become a businessperson, so for quite a while he passed up innovative notion after innovative notion.
I told ...
... him that there are some things that come naturally, other skills you can build - but in the end being an entrepreneur is about action. By beginning with a concept, can you complete it to success?
An entrepreneur is generally extroverted, although an introvert myself I would say this is something that can definitely be worked on. You can usually get better at being around others, even if you're already great at it.
Businesspeople are often all about great notions. Have you ever encountered someone that was always proposing the greatest solutions to some of life's incredible little challenges? Perhaps it's an idea for a system that will help you keep your power cords organized behind the entertainment center, or a more expedient way to file your documents. Whether the issue is a big or a little one, a businessperson is always thinking, "What can I do to fix it?"
Shots in the dark are simply the norm for a businessperson. Having an elevated tolerance for uncertain ventures is a feature of the executive. Just because an executive takes chances doesn't suggest that she is ignorant of the risks; quite the opposite, as a matter of fact. But what makes a winning entrepreneur? The one most crucial thing is motivation. Being a businessperson is all about having an objective in mind and being able to amend it when required. Consider the pal I was talking about previously. He recently celebrated his first year in business. It all started a year ago for him by going to a particular learning course called Executive Success Programs. He started his business after learning, through the course, what he desired and how to get it through tactics and careful preparation. It's his belief that with the right teachings, anyone can become a businessperson!
