Wrought Iron Door Furniture – Some Tips For Their Maintenance

If you own ironmongery in your furniture say a wrought iron door furniture or wrought iron window door furniture you need to know how can maintain them well over years; from cleaning to paint removal to restoration from rust, etc.
However, the choice of cleaning wrought iron door furniture should strictly be need based and not as you like anytime. As in metal staining on the furniture or soiling or say mould growth and so on would call for cleaning. Because if you don’t clean chances are that the furniture may get disfigured and will even get exposed to deterioration. A stitch in time saves nine; slight soiling if not cleaned on time can ruin the masterpiece of your home.
However, the cleaning of wrought iron doors is done by a special procedure called sand blasting or shot blasting. The process removes accumulated layers of stains or paints that must have obscured the intricate details of iron door furniture. In fact by accessing this way you would easily figure out the underlying defects early if any on the original piece of furniture.
Also cleaning carefully reveals the structural defects that call ...
... for attention before a refinishing is done, because bonding of finish on to the metal occurs best when the surface of the metal is free from any impurities and/or salts.
That being said, paint freeing from the wrought iron fixtures can be removed using solvents and chemicals. It should be remembered that the solvents chosen should complement the paint type. You should avoid damage to the metal from the solvent. Once paint/paint stains are removed, then care should be taken to remove any chemical residues and neutralize the surface.
The bare wrought iron metalwork needs to be given grey-colored finish and the surface will need a wipe with acetone to free it from any dust and slick. Now this cleaned ironwork will have to be treated with primer (quality inhibitive one to be exact) to help prevent rust formation.
In fact, rust can be easily treated at home with a lemon squeezed; it gives the same result as do vinegar gives. Rubbing vinegar or lemon on affected portions (rust) works effectively at least on small portions of iron door furniture.
Affected areas of furniture treated with plain white vinegar and oil removes rust and gives instant shine to the furniture. However, it should be remembered that furniture should be wiped with generous amount of vinegar or oil to loosen the rust. It makes cleaning job lot easier. Baking powder is also a good solution for rust. However, mix it with good amount of water to apply as balm on rust and leave it for some time to loosen the rust.
