Trading Computer Basics

There are a handful of basic components that can be extremely valuable to a day trading setup. They are small implementations that can spell huge relief when it’s needed most. Hi guys, I’m Eddie Z, author of the comprehensive guide for traders How to Buy a Trading Computer and Save Thousands, and I’m here to help guide you through your Day Trading Computer experience.
Today, we’re going to get into a few “tail-saving” features that you’re always better off having. Let’s start with the most obvious: batter backups. You might not believe this, but refurbished uninterrupted power supplies (UPS) are the way to go for a few different reasons.
First of all, the good ones contain a brand new premium battery. These batteries perform better and outlive their newer UPS counterparts. The premium versions have a useable life of three to five years, and typically have a higher capacity battery, meaning longer run times. But what’s best of all about the refurbished units is that they save you money!
If for some reason you’re not interested ...
... in a refurbished model, or can’t find one, my second-choice recommendation is a new battery with an Equipment Protection Warranty. This warranty is typically extended to any damage caused by power-related problems.
A battery backup is crucial, but remember: it’s only buying you a few minutes. The following items should be plugged directly into your battery backup: PC, primary monitor, modem lines, routers, and anything else required to maintain Internet access. If the power does go out, first, tie up your transactions, put stop orders on your positions, or, just get out of the market altogether. Then, shut your machine down. Doing this any other way will risk corruption to the hard drive or OS.
Surge protectors are another important tool to have in the event of severe weather or power problems. And it’s not only computers and monitors that need protecting. You need a protector with inputs for cable and DSL lines. If lightning strikes, you can lose the modem and line. My rule of thumb is this: if the wire comes out of the wall, put a surge protector on it.
Two Internet connections are really necessary for a Day Trading Computer. You need the backup in the event of a connection loss, and if you’ve ever lost one before, I don’t need to tell you how frustrating it is. I keep both high-speed cable and DSL in my office.
These are just a few the tips you can find in my guide, and I hope you explore more. Download the guide for free today!
Redundant Internet Connections: As a trader, my experience has been that I NEED at least 2 internet connections. If you have ever been trading and your internet connection goes out, you know the frustration I am talking about. I have high speed cable and DSL coming into my house.
