White gold which is an alloy of gold and various other white metals such as nickel, platinum, silver and palladium, etc. contains several rich features which are highly attractive for ring designers. In order to make white gold care is taken that there is right proportion of gold and other metals otherwise the consequent alloy will be yellowish.

Know About White Gold

As has been mentioned earlier, white gold is an alloy of gold with other metals such as nickel, silver, and many others, it still needs to have right proportion of gold so that it has features of gold including of durability and shining. Nevertheless, pure gold cannot be used to make a ring; therefore, some other metals are added so that it becomes hard enough to be given a shape. Thus, pure gold has never been in jewellery making; albeit it has been used after mixing some other metals for the purpose.

Karat mark is an indication of the proportion of gold when it is mixed with other metals; for ...
... instance, 18k, 14k, 9k etc. There is not difference in the amount of gold when a ring is made than yellow gold or when it is made in white gold. However, the other metal that is mixed with it is changed to give white colour e.g. nickel or silver. Now, for the people who do not like yellow golden colour ring may get a white gold engagement ring for the purpose which will though contain all the features that a gold ring contains, will be white and not yellow in colour.

White gold has brought versatility which was absent in yellow gold. No doubt gold will always have distinctiveness and higher value, people want something which can match the beauty and shine of platinum and for that reason they opt for white gold. Now, thanks to white gold engagement rings can be made that have an appearance of diamond rings.

Special Precaution Using White Gold Engagement Ring
