Hyundai would be entering its first gas-electric venture in the US by using the 2012 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid. This was probably caused by almost all US car makers’ bid to establish dominance in making hybrid vehicles that would provide the solution to the problems faced by new car finders and owners regarding the continuous increase in the prices of gasoline. In addition to this, the introduction of the 2012 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid in the US might also be a part of the company’s goal of providing hybrid vehicles to every car finder who plans to prioritize their brand over the others.

However, car experts have recently realized that this vehicle has its own ups and downs. Those who were able to take this vehicle on a test drive have their own observations as well as comments and among the most significant are the following.

1. The 2012 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid’s ups

Hyundai has successfully produced one of their hybrid vehicles in the form of the 2012 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid. This car has a reduced power output ...
... of about 166 horsepower from the former version’s 198. Its torque was also reduced from 184 lb-ft to 154 lb-ft. However, these reductions paved the way for the vehicle’s increased fuel efficiency. Its reduced horsepower and torque output allowed its 24 mpg in the city and 35 mpg in the highway to increase into 35 mpg in the city and 40 mpg in the highway.

Aside from this, the Sonata Hybrid was also equipped with the most sophisticated hybrid drive system that makes use of the 40 horsepower electric motor capable of producing 151 lb-ft of torque and the 1.4 kWh lithium ion batteries that supply the vehicle’s needed charge to the electric motor when disengaged from its gas engine.

2. The 2012 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid’s downs

Despite the company’s impressive production of its first hybrid car, there are specific criticisms that are thrown against the Sonata Hybrid’s performance. This includes the car’s ineffective braking and stopping mechanism that might lead to accidents or collisions.

Aside from these, those who took the car to a test drive have observed that the hybrid car is experiencing difficulties in shifting from gas-engine mode to electric mode. Given these, Hyundai should try to iron out some of these issues and try to provide attractive auto financing options for potential buyers so as to ensure that this model would emerge as one of the most in demand Hyundai-made vehicle.
