Considering Window Replacement? Know When It's Time To Invest In New Windows

Deciding whether you want to invest in window replacement is an economical decision. In some cases, new windows can save you considerable money on heating and cooling bills, and can greatly add to the equity of your home. In other cases where windows are not necessarily that old, there are better home improvements for your money. Here are a few factors to consider while deciding if window replacement is right for you.
Testing Windows
There are several easy at home tests you can do to decide if it's time for window replacement. When it's cold, do your windows get a condensation or frost buildup? Touch the interior pane of the glass of your windows. Does it seem cold in the winter, hot in the summer? Does the area near the window seem colder than the rest of the house? Try taking a lighted candle and trace it around the windows edge. Does it flicker? These are sure your windows are leaking and it's time for window replacement.
The Benefits to Windows
Utility bills are greatly lower after window replacement, with the savings usually making up for what you invest. If your windows are getting a frost buildup, ...
... it's generally a sign that they are not insulating your home effectively. This extra moisture can cause considerable damage to your home, resulting in rotten frames, dangerous molds, or damage to the floors and walls.
If windows are noticeably cracked, you should consider window replacement immediately. Cracked windows are serious safety hazards, especially with young children around. They also increase the expense in heating or cooling a home.
Modern windows offer UV protection in addition to insulation. This protects your family, furniture and home from the harmful effects of sun radiation.
Look for Tax Rebates
Keep in mind that many government programs these days offer tax rebates for window replacement. This was done to encourage the savings of energy, a testament to the energy savings that windows can bring. If the government trusts them enough to spend their own money, isn't it time you considered window replacement?
Consider the equitable benefits of new windows. In an age of falling housing prices, window replacement is one of the better ways to improve the equity of your home without gutting the entire foundation.
