How To Give Medicine To Your Kids In A Safe Way

No toddler is a fan of taking medicine, but a mom's got to do what a mom's got to do. That's why you need some surefire strategies to get your toddler to take medicine. Most medicines for young children are made up in sweetened syrup to make them more palatable, and can be given with a spoon, tube, syringe or dropper. Well, children are more sensitive to medications than adults are. If given in the wrong dose or at the wrong time, even some of the most benign OTC medicines can be ineffective or harmful.
Like most parents, you're probably a quick Internet researcher, looking up every ailment that befalls your children. Many moms think they call the pediatrician too often. However, if your child has the flu or a cold, it is important to talk to a pediatrician. If it's a prescription medication, ask what, specifically, it's for and what side effects might occur. Find out how soon it should begin to take effect and how long the prescription should last.
Droppers, tubes and syringes, are often more suitable for babies who haven’t learnt to swallow from a spoon. Some medicines for older children are supplied as tablets ...
... or capsules. Your child may resist taking medicine, especially if it doesn't taste very good. If that's the case, you may want to ask the pharmacist about a flavor mix-in (which can give the medicine a variety of different tastes) to make it more palatable. Well, remember don’t give the medicine together with milk, juice and tea.
Delivery can make all the difference. One of the best ways to ensure that your child gets the right amount of medicine is to use the right tool. So if your toddler has already turned up her nose at the medicine spoon, try giving her the medication in a medicine dropper. If the baby is very young, sterilize the spoon by boiling it or placing it in sterilizing solution. Also you can use dropper and medicine tube according to your convenience.
The most important is the doze. You should get the doze tight. Read the label carefully. Make it clear that children of different age and weight should take different doze. When taking liquid medicine, shake it before giving to your child to make sure that all the ingredients are evenly distributed, so your child won't get too much or too little of them.
Another key is the time, read the label to check the time frequency. Is it twice a day or three times a day? Remember to follow the directions about whether the medication should be given with meals or on an empty stomach.
Put all the medicine out your children’s reach and keep them in a proper.
