The third view of mine is that you can use this language as your mother tongue indeed. Lots of learners must think this impossible. But the question is that you haven't tried it yet yourself, how could you say so? It is rather difficult indeed, but you can do it yourself if you can overcome the inner fear or trepidation of your own. Maybe you cannot speak Portuguese as fluently as the natives in the beginning, you will be able to do so later as you practice. Certainly the problem is that you will still meet lots of problems in speaking it like vocabulary and language structure, but you can learn such things on the way and constantly learn the new things that might give you much assistance.
