Mumps Causes And Natural Home Remedies

Mumps is a contagious infection caused when mumps virus infects a person. Mumps is characterized by inflammation of salivary glands (parotitis) situated beneath the ears on either side. Only one side is affected for some; but for majority both the sides are affected. Mumps is common to the age group ranging between 5 and 15 years. Usually a person who has had mumps before or one who is vaccinated does not contract the infection. Facial pain, muscle ache, head ache, fever, chills, sore throat, neck swelling, loss of appetite and tiredness are the main symptoms of mumps.
The symptoms show up 16-18 days after the infection. If mumps virus infects older people, then even the prostate, testes, ovaries (in case of females), pancreas and the central nervous system may get affected. Mumps rarely causes complications like deafness and miscarriages for women who are in their early pregnancy. Mumps mainly spreads through the spraying of or contact with respiratory secretions as the infected person coughs or sneezes. The infection can also get transmitted if one touches the articles used by the infected person.
