Inner Metamorphosis University (IMU) based in Rogers Park, Chicago is a unique meditation centre for facilitating the process of bringing peace, celebration, love and awareness in the daily lives of people. Their daily, weekly and monthly schedule includes workshops, meditations and classes designed to suit the needs and the mind of the modern human being. Hiking Meditation is one marvellous workshop which is meant for those who really enjoy being in the outdoors meditating, relaxing and rejuvenating the spirit. It is facilitated by Amona and Jeffrey, the founders of the IMU.
When the term meditation comes to mind, the thought that usually pops up is being seated silently in a peaceful and serene place with very little movement, allowing oneself to just be without placing and judgement on oneself or our surroundings. When the term Hiking Meditation is put forward it may be a little confusing at first to think how one can actually meditate while the body is still in movement and the senses being stimulated by the surrounding impressions. Hiking Meditation can be done with your eyes open or at times closed, someone else leading you at times closed, someone else leading you. It is important to take note of all that is surrounding you. Listen for the sounds of the birds, the rustling of the leaves; feel the air that moves around you and the earth that is beneath you. Listen to the sound of your own breath, smell the fresh crispness of the air, feel the movement of your muscles- contracting and relaxing and the contact with the ground.
Hiking Meditation is a wonderful way to de-stress and is also a great bridge to learn bringing a meditative quality into our daily activities. Leaving the familiar surrounding behind is like going for a mini vacation one with nature. Although you would be walking through a park as a group, you are given the opportunity to meditate with the natural surrounding without having to interact with anyone else other than nature, thus allowing you to enjoy the entire spectacular natural environment.
The Inner Metamorphosis University (IMU) based in Chicago, was initiated in 2005 by the mystic Bhashkar Perinchery. He is known among his friends as FIL (Friend of Inner Light). One of his most recent publications "The Source of Joy Within", contains twelve sets of meaningful reminders; practical methods that can be applied in everyday life situations, a gentle, joyful, and easygoing approach to self-growth and awareness.. The IMU is the result of Amona and Jeffrey’s passion of developing more self-awareness and understanding. Some of the daily and weekly classes are offered for free and there is no pre-registration required. Besides the above, the IMU schedule is full of other meditation workshops daily and weekly activities like the Tai Chi, Feldenkrais, Memory Training, Silent Sitting, Total Dancing and showing Inspirational Movies.
