Although, lowering prices is a good strategy depending upon your industry’s nature but it is not the only best strategy available. You basically need to evaluate your market. If your major competitors charge too high and you believe you have the cost leadership advantage, then surely you should give lowering prices a try. But if your competitors are already charging a little above the cost, then it means you are going to forego the already little profits you make by lowering your prices. So a plumbing firm should try reducing cost rather than prices.
Promotion can be done in a variety of ways, through a wide range of mediums. Referral programs are just one example. Basically, in this strategy you use your existing customer base to create potential customers for you. A bit tough to grasp, isn’t it? Well, actually your customers at the moment advertise for you against a monetary reward which could be in form of cash or a voucher. All your customers need to do is promote your company name through word of mouth. However, this is quite a cost effective method as you are not to pay your clients until and unless a new customer arrives from your client’s reference. So in reality it is one of the most productive means of promotion.
One other relevant promotional idea could be advertising in the public restrooms. Sounds funny, right? Well, most people get bored while performing natural bodily functions in the stalls. Usually, it is something to read that interests them. So why not avail this opportunity? You could have your company information along with a catchy slogan attached to the back of the door or on a side of the stall. You could even attach a small cardholder there with your contact detail cards in it.
Although promotion is not the only aspect of marketing, yet it is quite important. If you are confident that your company can handle extra pressure and burden of increased jobs and tasks, or if you are unsatisfied with your current work load or profits, you should promote yourself on a wide range- trying to keep the costs low though.
