The primary principle of this particular hydraulic jack and press depends on Pascal's principle.
Pascals Principle

The premise of this principle is that the pressure throughout a closed system is constant. One part of this system is a piston with a large area that generates a correspondingly large mechanical force. The other part is a piston acting as a pump that has small mechanical force acting on a small cross-sectional area. Only small-diameter tubing is needed if the pump is separated from the press cylinder.

According to Pascal's law, pressure on a confined fluid is transmitted undiminished and acts with equal force on equal areas and at 90 degrees to the container wall. When either piston is pushed inward, a fluid is displaced. Small pistons displace a smaller amount a volume than the larger pistons.

Ultimately, when the pressure on the press cylinder is released, there is a force created in the press that is reduced to a low value. This solely depends on the friction of the cylinder's seals. Unless an additional mechanism is employed, the main piston will not retract to its original position.

The ...
... simplest use of the press is as a hydraulic jack on a frame. This is done with two big springs that return the jack to its shortest stroke after use. This is used to make press fits for things such as dowels and bearings. Sometimes it's used for breaking apart stuck items, like getting gears off of a shaft. Though this is the most basic use of the hydraulic press, there are several more uses.

Enerpac has a reputation of offering hydraulic presses that are made strong, durable and built to last. These press are widely known to be safe, precise and effective--a necessity for a state of the art workshop.

The hydraulic presses made by Enerpac come in a vast range of sizes, weighing anywhere between 5 and 200 tons. The great thing about Enerpac hydraulic presses is that they are not bolted together. Instead, they are welded for strength and feature corrosion resistant surfaces. The roll frame design of the press allows for a noticeable ease of use and flexibility.

Many of the Enerpac Hydraulic Presses offered by Machinery Values come fully equipped with v-blocks, Envepac pump, adjustable height table and moveable workhead. The adjustable workhead allows for movement and locking of the cylinder from side to side. There is also effortless adjustment of vertical daylight and a handheld pendant control.
