Snoring is usually treated with a light heart and many a times laughed off as a joke. In most of the cases, people get more concerned about how to stop snoring rather than trying to analyze the needs of their body which is showing up as the symptom.

It is a fact that snoring could be a cause of concern due to many reasons. Many a times people snore because they suffer from a condition called obstructive sleep apnea. Sleep Apnea is a condition that affects a person's breathing pattern during sleep. Apnea means the time period during which a person's breathing is acutely reduced or completely stops. In general, when a person stops breathing for a period of 10 seconds, he is said to be suffering from apnea. Sleep apnea, as the name suggests, occurs when the person is asleep.

There different types of sleep apnea and one of them are obstructive sleep apnea which is caused due to an obstruction in airflow when the person breathes. The common symptom for obstructive sleep apnea is snoring. Having said this, the point to note is that snoring by itself does not mean the person suffers from obstructive sleep apnea. Other ...
... symptoms like irregular body motions in the sleep, constantly waking up with dry throat or sore throat etc are also accompanied in such cases.

The main reason people are concerned about snoring is that it causes inconvenience to the partner and becomes a bone of contention over time. Snoring can cause you to suffer in your social life making life tough for the family members. This is also the most cited cause for which people look out for remedies. This apart, if the person's snoring could be an indication of obstructive sleep apnea, it requires due attention. If the condition is left untreated, it can lead to complications like diabetes, variations in blood pressure and so on. The sleep apnea will not permit the person to experience sound sleep which leads to fatigue, lack of focus on day to day activities among others.

There are many studies that indicate that people who are regular snorers are at a greater risk of suffering from heart diseases compared to those who do not snore. Snoring is mostly seen in people who are obese and is indicative of a problem with the lifestyle being followed. There are simple measures that can help battle the problem of snoring. To begin with, a healthy lifestyle must be followed. This means a stable diet and a regular exercise regime must be adhered to. Consumption of alcohol just before sleeping must be avoided since it leads to more snoring. In cases where the sleep pattern is disturbed and the person wakes up feeling breathless, it is best to consult a doctor who can assess the reason for such a condition.

A timely intervention to regular snoring can make a huge difference in the general health of the person. If you are among those having excessive fatigue, frequent headaches during the day time coupled with sleepiness, the problem must be attended to at the earliest.
