Home Cleaning For Those With Limited Time
There are very few people for whom home cleaning is an enjoyable occupation. In fact, for most of us it is something we leave until we cannot bear the state of the house any more—especially when so many of us lead busy working lives and have extra-curricular activities outside of the home, or kids that occupy our spare time when at home.
The problem of finding time for house cleaning, then, is a very common one. But there are several ways of combating it. See below for some tips, most of which can be combined to suit you and your family, and try them. If they work, keep going, and maybe try some of the others. Eventually you will find a system that works perfectly for you and your folks. And your home will remain clean and comfortable, causing less stress for those within it.
First of all, decide whether you want to blitz the whole house. This can be a very satisfying strategy, but is not always practical unless you can get the whole family involved or, if you are on your own, can set aside enough time to get through the house cleaning tasks in a day, or a weekend, say. Tidying the house, which obviously has ...
... to be done before you can effectively clean it, can often create more mess in the process, so if you are wary of this, you can always select to take care of just one room at a time, gradually working through the home, cleaning over a week or so.
Whatever you decide, unless your home is always neat as a new pin, tidying will be the first task. Begin at one corner (I favour the furthest from the door, so that you begin by tidying inside the room) putting things away in that room, and then move further out, leaving things that need taking into another room near the door until you’re ready to relocate them.
Once the surfaces are free of extraneous objects, you can dust them. This knocks the dust to the floor so that when you vacuum, it is mostly picked up. However, vacuuming throws up dust too, so if you’re really meticulous, you should go over the shelves and other surfaces again with polish or just a damp cloth to make sure they’re really clean. While vacuuming, move as much furniture out of the way as you can manage so that you get to the maximum possible area of the carpet. This ensures that you pick up more dust, and also more of any insects, mites, fur, etc. all of which can irritate those with sensitivities. Also, if you have time, vacuum soft furnishings, such as beds and sofas, for the same reason. The quicker you remove the dirt and dust, the less it gets ground in, so your furniture stays looking good for longer. Finally, polish the pictures, mirrors, and other occasional items on the shelves or surfaces. Believe it or not, that’s it!
