A big and tall office chair should be sought out for the big and tall office worker. An average size chair I not going to be able to meet all of the needs that a larger framed person is going to require. There are many different styles of office chairs with all sorts of special features, but there are some general rules for picking out a big and tall office chair that should be remembered.

The general rules for a good office chair.

When sitting in your office chair your feet should be comfortably flat on the floor. You should feel that your thighs are fully supported by the seat and your knees should be at a 90 degree angle. There should be a space of two to four fingers between the back of your knees and the edge of the seat. There should also be a 90 to 105 degree angle formed by your legs and torso.

Your back should be supported comfortably and the back of the chair should be snug against your lower back. The back of the chair should also support your mid and upper back. Most often this will take playing with the levers to get it to the right positioning for your comfort.

Your head should ...
... rest on the headrest without having to tilt your head backwards. And your chair should be able to tilt back easily, but not too easily. The arm rests should be adjustable for different needs, but when typing you should be able to rest your arms on the armrests and still be able to type comfortably.

Perhaps not as important as your sitting posture is but how the chair looks and feels. A good big and tall office chair is going to feel good when you sit in it and will continue to do that well into ownership. You should also like the look of the chair. Just because it meets all the ergonomic requirements doesn’t mean that you will like it. A chair that you find pleasing to the eye is just as important.

Getting a good office chair online is possible. Just make sure you know your measurements and what you need from a chair. Also check to make sure that any company is going to trade or accept a return on a chair that doesn’t work out for you. A warranty is also a great idea when getting a big and tall office chair.
