Flooring Dangers In Chicago
When choosing hardwood flooring, Chicago has many types to choose from. Since there are many types of woods used to make flooring. Chicago can get the look in wood flooring they want with ease. Woods such as oak, cherry, walnut, elm plus more exotics such as bamboo and vintage lumbers made from reclaimed lumber are all available.
Once you have decided on hardwood flooring in Chicago, there are a few things that you need to watch out for. Sometimes discount flooring liquidators will choose to sacrifice workmanship and the quality of their wood to help and reduce their manufacturing cost. You need to be careful and don't let them fool you. The discounted wood of the flooring may seem to be roughly similar to the fine wood flooring when you first look at it. But there are important things that you need to look for:
Most hardwood flooring in Chicago is advertised as being hand scraped. You need to look and see if the flooring is actually hand scraped because many times it is not, it is machine scraped. They can make wood appear hand scraped with machines by making the patterns and marks that would appear on hand scraped ...
... wood. Once this wood is on your floor you will see that the marks and patterns are repetitive and this will look faked when you see it spread across your wood floor in Chicago.
Another thing to watch out for is the type of finish that is used on your flooring in Chicago. This is a critical part of your flooring. The finish needs to be elastic yet durable enough to resist scratches and wear and tear. The finish should not cloud up the woods natural grain and should enhance the color of the wood. If the finish is poor it can make even the best of wood look dull and cheap. There should be a fine transparency that accentuate the beauty of the woods grain. Scratches on the wood are going to make the cloudiness even more apparent. Another problem you will see with cheap finishes is that the color will be inconsistent and you will notice a rough surface that has small bumps on it.
Quality hardwood flooring will not have any creaking and groaning sounds to it. Quality flooring in Chicago has less than 0.15MM gaps between boards. This tight spacing eliminates the creaking sounds you get with cheap flooring when you walk on it. The small gaps in these quality floors come form precision milling on high-end machinery. With bargain flooring less expensive machines are used which means less precise results. This leaves gaps and causes different thicknesses in boards, making the floor creaky.
Quality floors are made with high quality floor glue. The glue use in high-end flooring has a low formaldehyde level and does not give off harmful vapors like cheap flooring glue can.
When getting your flooring in Chicago it is important to make sure that you are getting what you are paying for and not getting taken advantage of. Flooring is a big investment and you need to be careful and make sure your flooring contractor is giving what you ordered.
