Dry Skin - Causes And Home Remedies
Dry skin is a skin deficit in moisture and sebum or oil secreted by sebaceous glands. Due to poor sebum production, the skin fails to lock enough moisture and gets dehydrated easily, resulting in dryness. It acquires a parched, dull look, and cracking, flaking and chapping are the major signs of dryness. It is very sensitive and feels tightly stretched over bones. The dryness is most evident on cheeks, around eyes and corners of mouth where fine expression lines may show up. The causes of dry skin may be listed as follows:
1. Inability of oil glands to lubricate skin sufficiently
2. Heredity
3. Vitamin A and B deficiencies in diet
4. Excessive exposure to sun, wind and cold
5. Excessive use of chemical cosmetics
6. Frequent bathing with harsh soaps
7. Smoking
8. Skin conditions like dermatitis, psoriasis, eczema and seborrhea
9. Hypothyroidism
10. Diabetes
11. Use of certain diuretics, antihistamines and antispasmodic.
Home Remedies for Dry Skin
1. Mix 1 egg yolk, 1 teaspoon olive oil, 1 teaspoon orange juice, few drops of lime juice and few drops ...
... of rose water. Apply the mixture on skin for 15 minutes before bath. This remedy rejuvenates dry, dull skin.
2. Massage skin with a mixture of cream of milk, few drops of rose water and lime juices. This alleviates dryness and smoothen skin.
3. A milk bath once a week is an effective home remedy for this problem. Mix 250 gm milk powder and half tablespoon almond in warm bath water and take shower.
4. Massaging dry skin with Aloe Vera gel or tea tree oil yields good results.
5. Mash ripe banana, add 1 teaspoon honey and apply over affected area. This is highly beneficial in treating dry, chapped and dull skin.
6. Application of cucumber juice on skin hydrates skin sufficiently, doing away with dryness.
7. Apply a mixture of one teaspoon lemon juice and one teaspoon avocado on dry skin. This is a useful treatment for this condition.
8. Massaging skin thoroughly with almond oil reduces dryness.
9. Mix egg yolk, honey and milk powder to make a thick paste. Apply on skin and keep for 15-20 minutes before washing. This solves the problem of dryness in the skin.
10. Apply raw papaya pulp on dry skin. This softens skin.
11. Massage with mayonnaise. Leave for 15 minutes and then wash off with warm water. This helps to get rid of dry skin.
12. Mix 1 tablespoon of yoghurt and mashed pumpkin and apply on skin. This relieves dryness.
13. Massaging with a mixture of olive oil and honey also reduces dryness.
