The average office chair is not made for a person who is big or tall. In fact the average size office chair could be potentially painful for a big and tall person to use on a regular basis. Instead of causing potential injury with an average size chair there are not many office chairs on the market that are designed for people who are big and tall.

The average office chair is designed to hold up to 250 pounds, but what this really means is anyone above 200 pounds is taking a risk. Maximum weight limits are not ideal and these chairs are designed to perfectly fit someone in this middle of this weight class. Which means anyone from 150 to 200 pounds is who the chair is designed for. Anyone smaller or larger will find the chair uncomfortable after awhile.

The same is true with the dimensions of the average office chair. The typical office chair will have a height of up to three and a half feet, putting the seat of the chair anywhere from 18 to 22 inches. For a taller person or someone with longer legs this could lead to serious discomfort and even potential injury.

The seat of the average office chair ...
... is about 20 by 20 inches. This is another area where the average office chair could be potentially uncomfortable for an office worker who is bigger or taller than this size allows for. Not only is this uncomfortable for the person who is going to have to use this chair, but it could be potentially embarrassing for the person as well. Not fitting in an office chair would be embarrassing for anyone to have to deal with.

Even with all the adjustable arms and levers that come on most modern office chairs this is not enough to make it comfortable for a big and tall person. There are chairs available that are designed specifically for people who don’t fit into the average mold. Big and tall office chairs come in a much wider variety for shapes and sizes. Getting a big and tall office chair will allow for up to 500 pound weight limit. This will help with not only comfort, but with safety and the health of the person using the chair.

Big and Tall office chairs are also nice looking. There are wide varieties of colors and patterns available. It is not like it used to be where big and tall people were regulated to one type of chair. Now there are many to choose from and anyone will find a style that will make them happy.
