Part 3: The Bird Jogging
Took no more notice of time then a flash and I was partly dressed and out my door. Not a noise to be heard, to cold for even the most playful of neighbor hood children to be out, still, I took little to no notice of the temp...my layers of clothes wrapped me in a comfortable warmth. "Step and step, and step, and step....and....step....and....and..." My voice became quite as if summoned by a great power to simmer in a silent awe of the gray winter lights color swallowing dance, a slow waltz of passing away and decaying bark and leaves. I walked slower and slower along the bike trail, a cocoon of trees raked there bending and brittle fingers across the trail like the roof of a hall way to some enchanted noble man. For once I lifted my eyes past my frontal view and peered into the distance, the horizon that is commonly unnoticed by the common gazer. It raced my eyes on and on as if they were separated from me as so they could reach the distance, past dry fields and cold train tracks, bundles of swaggering trees, and a line that divided the earth from the skies, the earth appeared as the heaven's honored plater. "Draw me to you ...
... life...drain from me mundane spite and let my eyes shine clear as the spangle stares of your blessed night." Did I say that...since when do I speak like that with out precaution...people would cackle if they were with in hearing reach. Nervously I bent my head to see if any other soul was near, only winter's dry locks plastered the path, in matted weaves of withered stalks. I stopped my treading and kept my feet still, a whirling breath burning with in my heaving chest, "Good run today I must say." Not caring to precaution towards the chance of on looking eyes of others I sat with sore tight knees, my pants printed with the dirt of the path. I noticed a dusty sparrow fluter near me, it's small plump body leaping with its hops on it's two thin legs. Small round black eyes, as hard a stare as a pebble came from them, the sparrow chirped at me, as it would appear. I looked away, but the sparrow hopped to my knee and persisted in it's chips and peeps. "Shoo bird." I jerker my hand toward it, it's wings fluttered but the sparrow remained gallant and chirped even more persistent at me. It's feathered head cocked here and there then with a flurry of brown fluff it flew away towards a close branch. I found my self standing as I walked towards it, in my indirect gaze I saw a man walking also towards the tree, but as I removed my stair from the sparrow to the man, it was as if he was never there. "A blur in my eye." But as I goggled up at the sparrow once more, the man's vague form moved and appeared again in my indirect side view. I watched as he walked nobly...then as if he were a ghost...passed through the tree's trunk to the other side with out even a notice. "Sir? Can I help you...are you lost?" I would never of spoken to a stranger before, but a stranger had never been as strange as this. The man's head turned towards my direction, the feeling made the hairs on back side my neck bristle to a chilling stand, for I could not see him very well in this manner, and it appeared as if a apparition's blank face stared through me.
