Plumbing is the skilled trade or occupation where the professionals work with pipe to direct the flow of the clean water, waste and gas inside the building. Plumbing is an essential part of any building made today, because without plumbing it would be impossible to have huge, tall and clean buildings. Plumbing basically is the utilization of the pipes and the fixture according to the requirement of the job. There are several pipes used in plumbing which can be mostly divided in to metallic and non-metallic pipes. The metallic pipes are copper, iron and steel and non-metallic pipes are PVC, PEX, CPVC and PB.
Firstly, let’s take a look at the metallic pipes. In the metallic pipes the most used pipe is the Cast Iron pipe. This pipe is used for the waste disposal. The pipe is dull looking with molted surface, and is quite heavy and strong. In addition to all this, it also has the large diameter, hence it can carry massive amount of waste, and the thickness of the pipes deadens the sound of the waste flowing through it, thus making it an ideal pipe for this use. The main plus point of the pipe is that it does not corrode and is long lasting, thus making it ideal for indoor used, like washrooms, sinks, taps etc. Then there is the black iron pipe or the silver iron pipe with very small diameter and is an ideal pipe for directing the flow of the gas throughout the building. It is used mostly to supply gas to the kitchen, boiler or the heater.
Coming towards the non-metallic pipes; namely CPVC, PEX, and PVC. PVC or Poly-Vinyl Chloride pipe is made of plastic and has large diameter. It is made out of rigid plastic and is white in color. This pipe is widely used for drainage disposal inside the homes, unlike the cast iron pipe which is used outside the homes in main disposal system. This pipe is quite resistant to damage, chemical and leaking and can be used for long periods of time, hence, making it ideal for use within homes. CPVC is also a plastic pipe and dull in color with small diameter, however, this pipe is quite resistant to high temperatures, so it is immensely used in homes to supply the hot water from the boilers to the desired outlets or location in home. PEX pipes are also made of plastic and some in three different colors, white, red and blue. This pipe is used to supply or direct the flow of cold water inside the homes as unlike the CPVC or Copper this pipe does not breaks even if it is frozen.
These were some of the pipes which are required by the plumber to install an effective plumbing system in the homes so that we have an efficient disposal and clean water system running in the house.
