For many women, the jewelry box is a treasured item in their possession for this is where all the precious jewelry is kept. However, in order to maintain the jewelry stored in the boxes, it is also important to make sure that the box itself is also well maintained. Why keep precious and expensive jewelry in a dirty box.

Most jewelry boxes are made out of wood and these are usually lined with velvet or soft cloth. This is the place to hold all kinds of jewelry like necklaces, rings and earrings. Start cleaning out the box by removing all of the jewelry inside. Make sure that the jewelry is kept in a safe and secure place when doing this. Never leave them out in the open especially if there are people in the house who should not even be aware of the collection.

Wipe the cloth lining with dry cloth to take out the dirt and dust bunnies. For the hard to reach corners, use a Qtip or something long with a tapered point covered in cloth. Once the initial dust and dust bunnies are removed take a damp cloth and wipe the interior of the box. This will loosen any hard to remove dust.

If there are dust residue left ...
... from the damp wiping, wait for a few minutes to allow to dry completely and then dust it again, with dry cloth. By now, there should be a notable difference inside the box. If there are glass or mirrors in the box, clean with glass cleaner with soft cloth and Qtip if there are hard to reach areas.

Before replacing the jewelry, take a soft, damp cloth and wipe down each of the jewelry. It is not a good idea to put back dusty jewelry inside the already clean box. Do not just dump in the items, make sure that they are all wiped clean and place them inside carefully. If there are any pearls, do not place them next to metal jewelry for the soft surface of the pearl can get damaged.

The act of cleaning the jewelry box is not a difficult task, it just involves a few minutes. Do not allow the dust and dust bunnies to accumulate for not only will the cloth lining get damaged, but the jewelry itself will also get damaged. Remember, all jewelry are precious, so it is only best that they get the best care so they are well maintained and can be passed on to the next generation.
