Linux Vps - How To Enjoy Better Performance
Linux VPS is a cost effective option for web developers who want to enjoy more features than shared hosting. Several people have switched over to this new technology recently. However, many do not really get the performance out of their server as they had hoped. In order to improve the responsiveness of the server there are several things that can be done to free up system resources. Running your server successfully is not really difficult if you follow a few basic steps. Given below are a few tips which will be very helpful.
Disable system services
An easy way to make Linux VPS server perform better is by disabling system services which you currently do not use or do not need. These services end up taking a lot of RAM and CPU space and will slow the server down. It also increases the chances of a remote attack on your server. Disable any service that you do not currently need.
Configure MySQl
You can also increase the responsive and performance of your server and increase available RAM by configuring the right MySQL cache size. Experiment a little and try different sizes of cache to see which ...
... one seems to be the optimum choice for you.
Configure Apache
For Linux VPS it is also important that you configure Apache in a correct manner. First check how much memory is used by Apache. Next, adjust StartServers and MinSpareServers directives as per your needs. It will instantly increase your server memory.
Clean up modules
Your server package will come along with several modules and features enabled. You may not need or use all of these features. Check configuration files to find out which of the features take up the most space but are not used by you currently. Any of the extra features should be disabled when you don’t use them. This single step will greatly increase your available resource levels.
Disable control panels
Only use control panels when needed. By disabling control panels you will be able to free up a considerable amount of resources and space. This will improve server performance immediately. By disabling control panels you will be able to free up 120MB approximately. You can install the control panels when needed through shell prompt or PHP script very easily. It is not very difficult to enhance server performance once you understand how to manage your resources. Always keep a tab on the modules, features and programs that you use and you don’t use. Your Linux VPS will perform much better if you disable anything that you don’t use.
