How to Improve Memory

Be Positive

First of all, you should remove all negative thoughts. If you keep thinking that your memory is bad and it is hard for you to remember names and dates, you will remain stuck with that. Instead, you should feel positive about yourself and work toward improving your memory.

Create Visual Images

It is easy to remember things when you associate visual images with information. So, whenever you have a conversation with somebody, you should start creating visual images in your mind. This strategy will help you in remembering information.

Use Chunking Technique

This technique involves breaking a long word or number into small chunks so that you can recall it easily. For example, if you want to remember the number 9901435, you should break it like 99-01-435. It ...
... is easier to learn three sets of small numbers than learning one big number.

Repeat the Information

If you want to remember something, you should repeat it a few times. Rather than repeating it frequently at a small interval, you should repeat it after regular length of times.

Do Brain Workouts

Solving crosswords and Sudoku and learning a new language are some ways of working out brain. Even performing your routine activities in different ways helps you improve your brain function. For instance, if you normally use your right hand, try eating, writing, and playing with left hand. The main purpose of doing so is to exercise the brain and keep it active to allow the development of new nerve connections.

Eat a Healthy and Well-Balanced Diet

Nutrition plays a vital role in keeping brain healthy. You should include plenty of fruits and vegetables in your diet. They are rich source of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, and help keep brain cells healthy.

Consume adequate omega-3 fatty acids as they play a crucial role in brain function. They are found in fish, flaxseeds, and walnuts. You should limit the intake of the foods high in saturated fatty acids and sodium. And, instead of having three large meals in a day, you should consume five or six small meals. This helps in keeping metabolism active and helps your brain get adequate fuel for proper functioning.

Have Adequate Rest

You should sleep at least six hours everyday. This will help your brain work to its full potential. While you sleep, your brain consolidates all the information it has gathered during the day, which helps you in remembering information.
