Google Enters Social Arena
Things are about to really be shaken up now that Google is going through with 1. For those of you are unaware, Google is continuing the like trend set up my Facebook by allowing users to co-sign and share an article or webpage that they find favorable.
If you know anything about Google, you know that they are known to take an idea and run with it, far. What we know so far about the 1 is that it's going to be the like button on steroids. This will bring a new social interacting aspect to Google's platform.
I can just see it now. This button is going to single handedly change how search engine marketing works today. Likes will take the place of many internet marketing strategies to determine where a page ranks in search engine results. Many likes will almost be like popularity votes for your page. If we learned anything from high school we know that the more popular you are the higher in demand you are.
Business will create entire marketing platforms around gaining a 1. It is said that this service is coming fully equipped with its own suite of analytics similar to Google Analytics. You will soon know who ...
... 1'd you from, where and how.
The sharing aspect of 1 is what makes it a gem. Yes, Facebook is allowing likes to share what users are buying, reading, doing, etc but that's just Facebook. Imagine when these practices are being implemented on Google. This reaches an unfathomably larger group of people.
Google putting its hand in the social pool will prove to be a venture worth watching. Not only are they adding 1, they are also looking to implement a service where all of your social accounts that use the same web address will be linked simultaneously and your searches can be customized using the information that is gathered from these accounts.
A Google spokesperson explained it like this:
For example, if your Gmail account is greganderson32@gmail.com and there's a Twitter account out there for @gregoryanderson32, we'll make a guess that's you and offer you the option to connect these accounts to improve your search results. As always, personalized results are only visible to you when you're signed-in, and no one else is able to see them.
Google has already added tweets to their search results and now this? Soon enough Google will find themselves as a one stop shop for all things social networking. I imagine that's the goal here.
With use of 1 and the collaboration of all of your social networks to this centralized location, there will be no reason to go anywhere else.
Google's new venture is not only a nudge social networks, but to businesses and marketing worldwide. Things are shaping up over there at Google, and its moving fast. It seems to me that your options are to get with this program or prepare to get lost.
