Search Engine Submission
In the late 90s, submitting your site to a search engine meant entering your site URL into the search engines where your site would then be crawled and indexed. Nowadays things are quite different. Each search engine has its own Webmaster Tools section where they ask you to create and submit a dynamic sitemap telling them exactly what content you have on your site and how important it is.
Search engines, namely Google, uses software known as spiders to crawl the web on a regular basis and find sites to index. There are a few things that Google looks for when crawling these sites to determine which sites to display on a search results page. A dynamic sitemap speeds up this process and tells the search engines exactly when you update your content and add new content.
Below you will find a few tips on how to have your site in these search results:
It all starts with content. Google looks to provide users with the most relevant and fresh results. You want to be sure that your site is always up to date with concise and helpful content. The more often you update the more chances that you might be recognized as ...
... an authority site by Google. This increases the likelihood of your pages obtaining good search results in rankings.
You must have high quality relevant backlinks to your site. Google sees backlinks to your site as votes from outside sites indicating that your site is a great resource for a specific search term. If you receive backlinks from a site that is already seen as important by Google, your site gains more leverage which will in turn effect search results in your favor.
Make sure that your site is build on a Google friendly CMS (content management system) like WordPress or Joomla. This will enable you to have build in tools that are great for ranking on major search engines. To be able to rank on search engines, you must first have the right infrastructure. Functionalities like integrated rss, pinging, dynamic sitemaps and etc will greatly benefit you.
If all other factors are in order, yet your site is still not showing up in Google search results, keep in mind that your site may have been temporarily unavailable when Google tried to crawl it. You can use Google Webmaster Tools to check for any errors that may come up on your site that would affect the crawl of your site's content.
