The Only Kind Of Lighting Needed On First Response Vehicles Is The Light Bar

Our road safety record in this country is appalling, we really do have some of the most choked up and impassable roads in the world. Add to the general mass of traffic distracted and generally rushing drivers is it any wonder deaths from road traffic accidents are increasing. Driving distractedly is something we are probably all guilty of. Loud music, kids shouting at each other, cell phones ringing and chatter in cars all distract the driver. First response vehicles need lighting to get through to us in our cars so they can pass a siren and flashing light bar certainly wakes drivers out of their distraction!
Given the distracted and less careful driving, it's no wonder that first responders are injured and killed on our roads every month. Many people claim not to have seen them at roadside and drivers have also passed road traffic accident scenes at speed to closely. Over the last few years, the 'move over' law has been made law in most states and it was brought in to help protect personnel working at roadside scenes. The fact that a law had to be passed to help keep first response personnel safe is pretty damning ...
... to us as a driving nation. It's no wonder that lighting of all kinds from beacons to a full size light bar have been fitted as a matter of course to emergency vehicles.
The job of any first responder regardless of which service they are in is a dangerous and often deadly one. Hurtling down a packed highway at speed trying to clear a path with your siren and light bar units flashing is certainly not for the faint hearted. They need the audible and visible warning to try to get drivers attention so they can pass safely. Getting to their destination in one piece is a challenge at the best of times, but when drivers don't respond it's damn near impossible. First responders light bar units not only assist them get to where they need to be but they provide illumination at the scene once they are there.
The light bar and siren is normally plenty warning enough to the majority of us thankfully. However, there is another new weapon in their arsenal for clearing traffic. The new piece of kit that is being tested is a siren that produces not the wail or yelp we are familiar with but a very low tone of sound that actually sends vibrations along the ground. If the normal siren and flashing light bar units haven't gotten a drivers attention then this new siren certainly will. The siren can be directed at particular vehicles and test show that it is very effective in getting a drivers attention.
It doesn't matter if you see the smallest of flashing light bar units on a vehicle or are faced with a mass of flashing bright LED lights you need to take note and be aware. Look at what is going on around you, be cautious when driving at all times, not just when you see flashing lights. We all have a part to play in making our roads a safer place for all. The more care and attention we pay whilst driving the more lives will be saved in the long run. Don't be a statistic but be thankful of and aware of the flashing light bar units you see daily.
