Haven’t we all watched a movie and come out of the theater, or gotten off the couch, feeling like the best person for writing a review about that movie just viewed? Haven’t we all had endless discussions with our peers wondering why the movie got a bad review or vice versa? And hasn’t it happened sometimes that you walk out of a 3d movie wondering whether the glasses were bad or are you the only one who didn’t feel the 3d effects?

I think it’s fairly safe to assume that at least a sizable amount of people will answer with a yes to at least two of the above. That then brings us to the fact that all reviews are not reliable. Especially when it comes to 3d movie reviews. Quite often what happens is that the reviewers do not give a fair picture of the 3d effects.

In Avatar, for example, there was so much talk about James Cameron’s vision and how wonderful the Navi world is but there is not much to go by when it comes to the effects. It quite led my dad astray as to what to expect from it and in the process he ended up watching it for its storyline and completely missed out on the beautiful effects that ...
... the 3d version had. No wonder, he came out of the hall wondering what all the fuss was about. For how can one call Avatar a complete movie experience without the beautiful glowing navi fireflies passing by your eyes or the wonderful foliage of that other world? Ne I am certain that without 3d effects Avatar would just not be as enjoyable. And that’s exactly what my dad confirmed for me by watching it sans the same.

Hence, what I feel is essential to 3d movies reviews is equal weightage on the story line and the effects. In fact, I’d lean slightly higher on the effect part. Who does not know the story of “The Three Musketeers”? Yet to go and see it in 3d will have its own charm. So, when a review of that movie shows up unless it gives a comprehensive feedback of that part it would be an incomplete review and definitely not trustworthy. The exact kind that, in the first place, makes so many of us want to pick up the pen and rewrite the review, which we blindly trusted. Let’s hope that such will not be the case.

Author's bio: Antonio is an out-and-out 3D movie fan. He loves to play guitar and write movies reviews especially the one in 3D.
