Types Of The Carpets

Carpets form a very important part of the decoration of the room and are used at various places to give the place a colorful or the cozier look. Sometimes we may even use the carpet for covering the uneven surface of the floor. Carpets are available in different forms throughout the world. Different countries produce different types of carpets. Even the designs and patterns of each country are unique and depict its culture. Persian, Iranian, and Turkish carpets are well known throughout the world for their exquisite patterns and durability.
Carpets may be widely divided into hand woven, machine woven, tufted and knotted varieties. The hand woven carpets are very famous in the developing countries where the women sit at their looms for the whole day and keep looming the carpets. Afghan women are the most artistic women in this regard. Their hardwork and craftsmanship is appreciated throughout the world. The hand woven carpets are made up of piles. When all the piles are cut to the same size the resulting product is known as the cut pile carpet and is used for the living rooms. When the piles are not cut the carpet is known ...
... as the loop piled carpet. The patterns that are woven on the carpet depend on the weaving method. It takes a long time to complete a carpet. The time may vary from one month to six month depending upon the design and size of the carpet. This is the reason hand woven are expensive than the other varieties.
Sometimes the machines are used for weaving the carpets. These machines are similar to loops in their structure but instead of the manual labor require fuel and electricity. Some factories use newer kinds of machines that have the ability to make very different designs. The machine woven carpets are produced much more efficiently than the hand woven ones. However they are less durable. The machine woven carpets are the most frequently used carpets because they are easily affordable.
The next type is the knotted variety. This is a relatively new variety where the cut piles and the loop piles are knotted together making an amalgam of beauty and durability. This form contains the features of both the cut and the loop pile. They may be prepared by hand or through the machines. Indo-Pak is famous for this variety. Tufted variety is the commonest variety that is in domestic use today. In this variety an additional backing material is added to the carpet to make it soft and comfortable for the living. Tufted varieties are best suitable for the living spaces.
There are many other varieties of the carpets too which include the rugs and the centerpieces we use for interior décor. The carpets may be classified on the basis of the weaving process. These types include flat weave, plain weave or hooked variety. Hooking is mainly done in rugs to give them some bounce. Flat and plain weaves are common among the Europeans.
