For those who have warhammer online accounts (the full ones) and have finished playing the previous version which was released in 2006 called the Mark of Chaos, no doubt that they kept the enthusiasts waiting for almost two “hard” years. Now with the introduction of the next episode called the Battle March they’ve introduced new effects and campaigns, etc and some other interesting features to the game. So let’s talk some of the new features (including good and bad aspects…) that then new version brings with it.

Now when it comes to RTC games, game controls are one of the most important things of all. We’re talking about trying to control hundreds of (or even thousands when considered the online version) battling units and the lack of controls will not only makes it harder for the players to interact and get the ultimate experience within the game but it also has the ability to make the game totally useless if not properly embedded. So in the Battle March, in comparison with the previous versions, the usability is a bit lessened by not having enough controls that are easily available. And as always (can’t ...
... really blame the game for this one actually) it will require better hardware (VGA, CPU, etc) than the others as well.

And as usual if you don’t have a full warhammer online account (which also affect the offline play also) then you’ll be restricted within the first 10 levels. Anyway, the controls may seem the main negative factor but still other improvements such as new warfare effects and strategies, new units, etc are introduced nonetheless. And in the previous version where it only had 2 campaigns but the Battle March has three of them and they all tell one main story of an invasion from Earth. And as general tips (which applies to all the versions), make sure to use the temple for healing your units and choose the ones that are most suitable according to the enemy campaigns and to the surroundings, etc as well. After all this is a strategy game isn’t it?

But in a more artistic point of view the game seems all about “just battles”. I mentioned this because, one of the reasons why people enjoy these type of fantasy PC games in not just because of the battles but it gives them the opportunity to “feel” themselves as a part of the game, as an actual character to be precise. So the less the developers concentrate in creating an emotionally rich environment not only it affects the game but as a result the users (especially the ones with a purchased warhammer account) will be drawn away and ultimately it will work against the creators and their business as well.

But in general, as mentioned before the visual experience is richer than the previous ones and has new explosion effects, etc. But the AI that is being used to create the enemy units seems a bit predictable and as a result, if you’re an expert in RTC game play then you’d feel it’s just a bit easier to take your units to victory. And the overall sound quality is good but not great. But still in my opinion the game itself (even with these negative factors, etc) is not a failure by any means and certainly won’t have extreme effects, such as forcing most of the new users not to even purchase any warhammer accounts online at all. So as a final note, let’s forget all these little ups and downs and just play it and enjoy.
