Credit cards are at times the most preferred payment method for many customers. This can be for various reasons from using credit facility available to reduced burden of carrying cash. Most of the Banks offer their customers a variety of credit card services. Their services cut across segments in a wide economic spectrum.

Nearly everyone, from students to retirees use credit cards. Constantly, we hear or see ads for credit card services. Credit cards can help ease the transactions for hotel reservations, online transactions, etc.

Services given by the credit cards are conformity between the customer and the card provider with regards to provision of credit money for a limited payment of time. Within this period the customer is expected to repay the amount given as credit. Thus, the financial institutions, usually a bank give card services by providing a loan of money expect that it is paid back in a certain specific amount of time.

It is a good banking practice to pay your credit card bills within the due date. But at times, people do not pay the credit card balances for various reasons and therefore ...
... they have to pay the original amount with an interest. Some people carry on using the services given by the cards, and thereby charging more items to the card and increasing the balance and the interest. These practices are hazardous to a customer’s credit history and finances.

There are, however, various benefits of availing a credit card. Some of the benefits of availing a credit card are:

The ability to buy anything as per need by using the credit card without paying for it on immediate basis through cash. Thus, credit card services offer allow the customer to shop offline and online without money. Also, many of the online shopping websites and portals mandate payments to be done through credit cards only. However, this is a convenient service given by the companies to the card owners as compared to cash transactions.
If someone is stuck without money, these credit cards can be a lifesaver especially in emergency or unforeseen situations.
While traveling it is may be difficult to carry huge amounts of cash. There is always a risk of cash being stolen or lost. Whereas, if the credit card is lost or stolen, you always have the option to block or cancel the credit card. A replacement to the lost or stolen credit card is available subsequently.

To conclude, credit cards are useful in many situations. But it is advisable to practice good credit card payment practices to maintain a good credit history.
