The most important Emergency light is likely to be on first response vehicles and the lighting is essential kit. Any first responder needs to warn and advice of their approach and that they need traffic to move and let them pass. Most first responders when stationary at roadside or on a street need the lights to act as warning of their presence and those vehicles need to move over or pass them safely. There are specific types of an Emergency light on vehicles such as the take down light or alley light a police vehicle may need. Traffic advisor light units are also used as emergency vehicle lighting.

Flashing lights on a vehicle almost always indicates they need drivers or pedestrians to be aware of them and that they are moving at speed. Whilst sirens may not always be used lights are generally used in response to a range of different priority calls. A vehicle Emergency light can be used to pull someone over to roadside or stop. Flashing lights of any kind when you see them on any road or highway mean you should drive with caution and due care. Let's face it we should always drive carefully and with ...
... full consciousness of what is going on around us.

In today's almost hermetically sealed cars road noise and outside noise is often cut to very low levels. Add to that distractions such as ringing phones, passengers, kids, dogs or any in car noise and you have someone who is driving distractedly. Distracted driving is a killer, a high proportion of accidents are caused because the driver was distracted by one of many of the above things. All these distractions and lack of noise mean we often won’t hear an emergency vehicle approach us but we will see the Emergency light flashing insistently in our mirrors or up ahead.

The right amount of Emergency light on vehicles is crucial as too little or too much can be worse than none at all. A vehicle that has internal light bars, external light bars, beacons, dash and grill lights can be too bright and very distracting to drivers. Most first response vehicles at a scene need enough light to illuminate and also warn so rear window lightbars and a lightbar on top of the vehicle could be enough. Safety is the key thing any emergency vehicle lighting needs to protect and that can be a lifesaver.

Emergency light units help vehicles respond quickly by getting traffic to move, and even just a few minutes could mean the difference between life or death to someone. Emergency lighting comes in many different forms for vehicles and is everything from a single rotating beacon light to a full width tiered light bar on a police cruiser. There is no doubting the importance of Emergency lighting on vehicles and yet it is probably not something we ever consider. Always take note when you see any flashing Emergency lights on the road or streets, they will not only be saving lives but warning others.
