Known for having some of the best skiing in the United States, this old mining town is a top vacation destination for over 600,000 tourists each year. Park City grew quickly in the late 1800’s with the discovery of gold, silver, and lead. Mining brought the city to flourish into the 20th century. After World War II, though, there was a sharp decline in mining and by the late 1950’s, the city was at risk of becoming a ghost town. Skiing and other winter activities were becoming popular throughout the Western United States and in 1963 the first resort opened. Treasure Mountain quickly became “the” ski destination and the town quickly embraced its new purpose.
