Cisco Catalyst 4500 Series offers two types of line cards: classic series E.
Classic line cards provide 6 gigabits per slot switching adeptness. This
increase in switching capacity per slot with the E-series Cisco Catalyst
4500E-series requires the chassis, Cisco Catalyst 4500E Series Supervisor. There
are two types of cards E-series based on the switching capacity per slot.
E-Series cards numbered 47xx perform at 48 gigabytes per dwelling, while the
online e-cards numbered 46xx series operate at 24 gigabits per slot. Classic
line cards can be translated in both E-Series chassis with either Cisco Catalyst
4500 Series supervisor engines or the Cisco Catalyst 4500E Series Supervisor
Engine. The supervisor engine E-Series is reasonable for switching line cards to
6 gigabits per slot.

But because of the centralized environment line
cards Cisco Catalyst 4500 Classic will take on all of the new configurations of
E-Series Supervisor Engine, such as eight queues per port, based on dynamic QoS
IPv6 routing equipment. E-Series cards can be mixed and matched within a Cisco
Catalyst 4500E chassis set without leaving the productionline cards will be
effective at 6 gigabits per slot, and maps of the E to 48 gigabits Gigabits per
slot or 24 slot on the basis of whether they belong to the family or 46xx 47xx
line cards.
