When most people imagine Yucatan real estate, they think of the old colonial homes in the charming city of Merida; while this is an excellent option, buyers also have the option of Mexico condos for sale on the beachfront.

Yucatan’s main beachfront community is the town of Progreso, about 30 minutes away from the capital city of Merida. The town is a charming combination of traditional homes and modern condominium options. The town center retains the charm of old Mexico, but buyers still have the option of buying new condos with up-to-date conveniences and amenities a short drive, or even walk, away.

The town of Progreso is defined by a very neighborly co-existence of the small, but well-established, expat community and the local population. The town is small, and while enjoying the comfort of a modern beachfront condo, owners will also enjoy a walk-everywhere atmosphere with little cafes and shops in the town, not to mention the local market where the townspeople buy very fresh fruit and vegetables at excellent prices.

Excellent restaurants, bars and nightlife are available in town and in the surrounding beachfront villages.

The town also has a large new grocery store. Only 30 minutes away, on the edge of Merida closest to Progreso, there are new plaza’s with international stores and a large variety of restaurants and goods that expats would be used to from back home. There is also a number of large sports complexes to enjoy in addition to the smaller facilities in Progreso itself.

When considering real estate in Yucatan, buyers should seriously consider the option of owning a condo in the small but comfortable beachfront town of Progreso.
