Seattle is what one can call a fairly peaceful city. Crime rates are relatively much, much lower than compared to other American and North American cities. What little crime that does take place is quickly looked upon by the Seattle Police Department. The Police Department is very co-operative, and takes care of any crime inflictors as soon as possible.
According to a 2007 survey, homicide rate in Seattle was 3.3 per 100,000. The figure is amazingly low when seen Detroit’s 33.8, Atlanta’s 19.7, Chicago’s 15.5, San Francisco’s 13.6, Boston’s 10.3 and New York City’s 6.3. The credit for this definitely goes out to the law and order maintenance authorities.
Among what crimes that do take place in Seattle, organized crime appeared to be happen the most? A reason for this is possibly because Seattle is a home for millions of immigrants. Gangs with various nationalities assemble and get together to commit crimes like drug dealings, robbery and forgery etc.
Seattle’s underground is thriving mainly due to two types of gangs. First are the Italian- Americans, and second are the various American biker ...
... gangs. These two gangs make up the majority of the crime committers. They carry out large scale organized crimes that mostly comprises of drug trade and dealings of cocaine, marijuana and heroin. The trade is usually done with clients sitting in the Asian mafia circle.
Transactional crime like counterfeiting of currency, bank cards, digital entertainment products, telemarketing fraud, and the production of marijuana and synthetic drugs are on their peak. Car theft is also a major problem these days. Any stolen cars are rarely kept within the city or the country itself. They are immediately shipped off to be sold in the black market where no checks and balances are kept. It is said that the increase in such organized crime is due to the flexible and weak laws of the city. Office of the United States Trade Representative has placed Canada on an observation list due to failure in providing appropriate protection of personal property rights.
Another crime committing body in Seattle is the youth gangs. A book written by Kenneth H. Rogers openly stated the names of many youth gangs that had been operating freely back in 1945. The names included Brown Gang, Grey Gang, Porter Gang, Beavers, Britch Gang, Graphic Gang, Evans Gang, King Gang, Wunkies Arnot Gang, Basket Gang, Black Gang, Green Gang, Grey Gang, Aces Gang, Aggies, Bridge Gang, Cardinal Group, George Gang, Harris Gang, Mix Gang, Park Gang, Rustler Gang and Trapper Gang. Only the number of names written down can give an easy measure of the extent of the seriousness of the working of these gangs.
Seattle Police Department however has carried out various operations on the youth gangs currently involved in crime. The first arrest caught 44 gang members charged for 1000 different crimes, the second catch was for 106 criminals again charged for 1000 different offences and a third arrest caught 95 more people charged for 700 broken laws.
If work like this continues, it is easy to see that Seattle would definitely be one of the safest cities to live in the world.
