This upcoming movie is set in the Maasai Mara National Reserve in Kenya. “African Cats” is Disneynature’s third Earth Day release. This new movie comes right after “Earth” and “Ocean.” It’s like “Lion King” in real life – full of warthogs and crocodiles! Samuel L. Jackson narrates new movie release “African Cats.” It’s all about the problems in the lives of a lion cub, a leader of the pride of lions, and a cheetah who’s trying to raise her cubs in the face of everyday danger. The box office is expected to be about the same as for the other two films in the series, although the gross may be a little bit better due to a more exciting subject and better storytelling. Some of the money that comes into the box office during the first week of this movie picture will go to projects to help save the savanna.
Directors Keith Scholey and Alastair Fothergill (Scholey also wrote the narration), spent three years on “African Cats.” After that they packaged it as entertainment and as a battle for survival by animals that people like to see on the screen. You’ll see Fang, a beaten up lion who’s threatened ...
... constantly by Kali and his four sons. Fang is the leader of the River Pride. Next comes Layla and her cub Mara who fights to survive against all odds. You’ll also meet Sita, who fights to protect her five newborn cubs, of which only one may survive.
Jackson tells you over and over that all of these animals are always in danger’s way. If they manage to survive one test, they are immediately facing another. There’s danger everywhere. Some of the younger members of the audience may find some of the natural violence to be a little bit problematic. The G rating is close to PG13 here so keep that in mind if you plan on taking young children to see “African Cats.” However, this is another fine Disney movie.
