Flood Or Fire – Take These Steps First

The devastating effects of a flood or fire are all encompassing. Whether it was your home, business or commercial property that incurred the damages, facing the losses and the flooded home and fire restoration required in the aftermath is a disenchanting prospect that no one relishes. We often like to think that our insurance policies alone somehow provide us with a magical shield that prevents the catastrophes from striking. However, when fires and floods occur, we are brought to the all too painful awareness that such notions are merely false senses of security.
Before re-entering your property, the very first step you must take is to make an assessment of the potential dangers inside of the structure. If the damages were incurred due to a fire, be sure to follow any precautionary advice provided by the fire department. Structural weaknesses and water saturation can culminate to present any number of perils: weakened floor boards, weakened load bearing walls, weakened or sagging ceilings, etc. Your safety and the safety of your family, tenants and/or workers are of the utmost importance.
Once it is ...
... determined that a re-entry into the building is possible, and you’ve mustered the wherewithal to face the actual damages of the flood or fire, you must resolve to make an honest and logical evaluation of what might actually be salvaged. It is sometimes beneficial to approach the task with a willingness to let everything go, and then treasure each of the intact and salvageable pieces that you can find. The loss of heirlooms can be like erasing the evidence of an entire generation of your family, and the loss of expensive office equipment can be like negating all of the energy and effort that you have put into building your business.
Floods and fires can have incredibly profound and personal effects on their victims, so it is essential, in the event of such disasters, to secure the services of an experienced and understanding flooded home and fire restoration team. They may not only be able to see potential where you see only loss, but also provide you with renovation where you see only devastation. So, to summarize, the first three steps of dealing with your flood and fire related disasters are: 1). Be sure the building is safe to re-enter; 2). Make an assessment of the damages that have been incurred; and 3). Call in a team of experts who may be able to spare you some of the losses that you initially perceived as inevitable.
