Sciatica Treatment

Sciatica is the compression or irritation of the sciatic nerve, which can cause pain in the lower back that often radiates to the back of the legs, calves, ankles, and toes. This can be very painful and you need a sciatica treatment to eliminate or at least reduce the pain.

For most people, the good news is that sciatica usually will get better by itself, and the healing process usually only takes a few days or weeks. Overall, most of the episodes of sciatica pain heal within six to twelve weeks.

Sciatica treatment can be done at home to relieve pain include:
1. Using ice to help reduce inflammation which is around the nerve. This can help to stop it from getting worse. Use ice for 10 minutes, then off for 10 and again for 10 minutes. Keep this 2 or 3 times

2. Stretching - You have a muscle called the piriformis muscle. This muscle has the sciatic nerve runs through or along side it. By stretching this muscle you can reduce the pain quickly.

Have you noticed that your pain is worse in the morning after sleeping all night? When you are able to move, this helps ease your pain a little. This is why moving is an important treatment for sciatica.

However, sometimes flare-up from the sciatic nerve pain may be indicative of a condition that must be managed so as not to be worse from time to time. For the most part, readily available pain management techniques and regular exercise will go a long way to tackle the situation.
For others, when pain becomes severe or do not own better, more structured pain management program (including specific physical therapy and exercise), and perhaps surgery is an alternative for sciatica treatment that can offer the best approach to find relieve pain and prevent or minimize future flare-ups of sciatica.
