In addition to using the Performance console, you can use the following command-line utilities to monitor and manage free practice tests Active Directory performance:
Logman The Logman command manages and schedules performance counter and event trace log collections on local and remote systems.
Perftnon The Perfmon command allows you to open a Performance console configured with the System Monitor ActiveX control and Performance Logs And
Alerts service.
Relog The Relog command extracts performance counters from performance
counter logs into other formats, such as text-TSV (tab-delimited text), text-CSV
(comma-delimited text), binary-BIN, or SQL.
Tracerpt The Tracerpt command processes event trace logs or real-time data
from instrumented event trace providers and allows you to generate trace analysis
reports and CSV files for the events generated.
Typeperf The Typeperf command writes performance counter data to the command 70-685 window or to a supported log file ...
... format.
Lodctr The Lodctr command registers new performance counter names and Explain text for a service or device driver, and saves and restores counter settings
and Explain text.
Unlodctr The Unlodctr command removes performance counter names and Explain text for a service or device driver from the system registry.
Refer to Windows Server 2003 Help for detailed information about using these com-mands in performance monitoring and management.
Off the Record Excessive monitoring effects server performance, so monitor only the objects and counters required. Monitor objects and counters remotely where possible to reduce the performance impact of monitoring on the server you would like to monitor. You can also use the Logman.exe utility to configure specific logging operations from the command line, batch file, or scheduled job.
To troubleshoot problems indicated by System Monitor, you must be able to analyze and interpret the results of each counter you have selected for monitoring.
There are four steps in the process of analyzing and interpreting performance- monitoring results: (1) establish a baseline, (2) analyze performance-monitoring results, (3) plan and implement changes to meet the baseline, and (4) repeat steps 2 and 3 until performance is optimized.
You can retrieve more a+ exam papers detailed information about directory service processing by increasing the logging level for the appropriate registry entry in the
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NTDS\Diagnostics subkey in the Registry.
