Any kind of visual and audible warnings are vital to first response vehicles, flashing lights and rotating Strobe lights are perfect as warning signs. Any flashing light on any item conveys that something is wrong, but the lighting on first response vehicles are far more important in letting us know there is some danger or hazard on the road. Strobe lights are not just used on first response vehicles. You will see them in alarm systems in your home and places of work. A single beacon strobe light can be used on doctors or nurses vehicles when they don't need the permanent addition of a light bar.

Strobe lights have been with us for some time although it is open to debate who actually invented it. One camp says Dr. Harold Edgerton invented the strobe light in 1926 during his work at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, whilst he was studying the effects of high-speed flashes in photography. Others say that the first strobes were used on steam ships, which place their invention way before Dr. Edgerton. In fact, a royal navy seaman's manual dated 1911 mentions Strobe lights as to diagnose machine ...
... faults. Whoever and whenever strobe lighting was invented a debt of gratitude is needed to the inventor.

Many types of vehicles use Strobe lights either as a single beacon or as part of a lightbar. Construction vehicles often use single Strobe lights as hazard warning, as do many municipal vehicles. The flash pattern on Strobe lights is instantly recognizable and warns others that a vehicle is moving slowly or has a large hazardous weigh it's loaded with. A rotating strobe light is very hard to miss and that is why they prove ideal as warning lights on all kinds of vehicles. Strobe lights can normally be seen through the full 360-degree range and in all weather and light conditions.

It is a sad and tragic fact that many emergency responders killed or injured on our roads every month. Many of these killed or injured are in attendance at a scene where there are others injured or dying. It's a sad indictment of the general public as drivers that we can fail to see Strobe lights or hear the wail of sirens at a roadside emergency. Our vehicles are now so effective at cutting out road noise that we often don't hear sirens. We have no excuse not to see flashing Strobe lights however. If you don't see a flashing strobe then you aren't paying due care and attention to your driving and what is around you.

We should always be very aware of everything going on around us when we are driving, sadly, accidents occur mainly because we just don't pay attention. Dangerous driving doesn't just involve alcohol or drugs it involves carelessness, leaving to short a time for journeys and by ignoring other road users and emergency vehicles when they are approaching. Flashing Strobe lights are there and used for a reason and we should never assume the situation is anything less than an emergency. By being aware at all times when you are driving, you avoid becoming a statistic yourself.
