One Day Without Shoes, April 5 - Hansen Surfboard plans to go Barefoot to Raise Awareness.

ENCINITAS, Calif., March. 21, 2011 - Hansen Surfboards, celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, is going barefoot April 5 to increase awareness for One Day Without Shoes.

In accordance with the organizers of One Day Without Shoes, millions of children live without shoes and are vulnerable to infection and disease as a consequence of it.

“We’re collaborating in One Day Without Shoes because we wish people to come into our store and ask why everyone is barefoot,” said Josh Hansen. “We’re doing this for those people who find themselves going barefoot because they have no choice. The impact of a pair of shoes could be huge on somebody’s life if that person didn’t have shoes before.”

To add to One Day Without Shoes, Hansen Surfboards also participates in Soles4Souls every year. The campaign encourages people to drop off their unwanted shoes at Hansen Surfboards in exchange for a discounted 10% off a new pair of shoes or sandals for every pair donated within the store.

... add up pretty quickly, so whenever we are not able to keep any more of them gathered at the back of the store, I drive out to Las Vegas with a trailer full of these shoes and donate them to charity so people without shoes can use them,” added Josh. “Last year I drove out there with 3,500 pounds of shoes. It’s one of our favorite programs here because we all know it has such a tremendous impact.”
