Metformin belong to a set of drugs called biguanides. Metformin made up of active ingredients that are easily isolated and identified. Two linked guanidine rings are present in the metformin. Metformin causes different effects on the mechanism of glucose, which results in improving insulin sensitivity in various tissues like liver and muscles. Also it helps to reduce the gluconeogenesis, which is nothing but synthesis of glucose by the liver from non carbohydrate source. Overall, the metformin results in reduction of glucose levels. Since it is a euglycaemic agent, it will never reduce the blood glucose level below the normal level and hence never causes Hypoglycaemic episodes.

It is also more beneficial for lipid mechanism, which tend to lower the circulating fatty acids. The VLDL is also reduced by the metformin, which is responsible for causing cardiovascular diseases such as circulation of fatty acid. Insulin is one among the various reasons for becoming overweight. Primarily, this form of fat gets stored in the belly. If a person eats, the level of blood sugar gets increased. If the blood glucose level raises more, ...
... then more amount of insulin gets released in pancreas. More amount of insulin results in making you fatter. This results in making of fat and fat cells by the liver in the belly. One of the best ways to avoid this kind of obesity is by avoiding the food items that causes high level of blood sugar level. You can also prevent this by taking the medication metformin.

The glucophage present in the metformin helps to reduce the amount of sugar release from the liver in order to reach a desired blood sugar level, which in turn helps to reduce the production of insulin amount. Hence the sugar can not be converted into fat by the liver, which in turn helps to reduce weight. Apart from loosing weight and curing diabetes, the metformin also provides numerous benefits. But, if the blood is more acidic due to the presence of excess lactic acid, the metformin drug is not effective. For curing the diabetes, metformin is the most effective medication. Different types of diabetes can be treated by the metformin. Also it helps to reduce the risk of heart attacks, strokes, diabetes-related death, and also various other diseases. Usually metformin works by 3 directions such as firstly, reduces abruption of carbohydrates, secondly, reduces glucose production and lastly increase the insulin sensitivity.
