Be honest, you wouldn't ignore any flashing light on your vehicle dash, and you probably wouldn't ignore a flashing red ring on your games console. Most of us would consider such lights as emergency light that is warning us something is wrong and needs to be dealt with. There is now doubt that depending on your priorities we can see the most innocuous lights as emergency lights. In the main the kind of lights that warn us and inform us on normal everyday objects, items and vehicles aren't really emergency lights. There may be cases when say an oil light flashes on your dash board could be classed as emergency light as you do need to act on it or your engine may seize if you are losing oil and not replacing it

We see so many flashing lights on our streets on a daily basis we become almost tuned out to them. They become almost invisible and we really don't register them or the sirens that often accompany them. Human beings reach saturation point and we can tune things out very effectively when we choose to. However when we do see flashing lights, it should automatically flag up in our consciousness ...

I find it hard to believe that people tune out flashing lights to the degree they will hit someone on the road with their vehicle. We all have a part to play in road safety and maintaining that safety and that should be second nature the minute we get into our vehicles. We should never drive without due care and attention or get so distracted by loud music or sound proofing in our cars that we don't see or hear things that are there to warn us. emergency light units on vehicles are there for a reason and that is to increase the vehicles visibility, sadly this doesn't always work.

We should always be very aware of what is going on around us whether we are in a vehicle or as a pedestrian. Believe me if you were involved in a road traffic accident or became a victim of crime the thing you would look out for would be an emergency light as it would indicate help is at hand. The single most important thing we can all do is take note if we see any flashing lights, adjust our speed, and act accordingly. If all road users paid attention and were concerned about the world outside their vehicle there would be far less accidents and fatalities.

If we lived in that perfect Utopian world where there was no crime, accidents, fires or illness we would have no need for emergency light units. The reality is so different, and without the emergency light bars or beacons, all of those things would be more likely than less likely to happen. The next time you get into your vehicle, remove all distractions, take out those ear-buds and have your mobile on hands-free operation. Once all of those in car distractions are reduced, you will be more aware of the roads and other traffic and that means you will be helping save lives.
