Creating An Alert

To create an alert, you first define the counters you want to monitor for the alert and then set MCSE Certification alert triggering and scheduling parameters.
To create an alert, complete the following steps:
1.Click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Performance.Double-click Performance Logs And Alerts, and then click Alerts. Existing alerts
are listed in the details pane. A green icon indicates that the alerts are running; a red icon indicates alerts are stopped.
3.Right-click a blank area of the details pane and click New Alert Settings.
4.In the New Alert Settings dialog box, in the Name box, type the name of the alert,and then click OK.
In the General tab of the dialog box for the alert, shown in Figure 14-11, type a comment to describe the alert in the Comment box, and then click Add.
In the Add Counters dialog box, choose the computer for which you want to create an alert.

7.In the Performance Object list, select NTDS.
8.Select the counters you want to monitor, and then click Add.
9.Click Close when you have finished selecting counters to monitor for the alert.
10. Back in the General tab, specify Under or Over in the Alert When The Value Is box. In the Limit box, specify the value you want to trigger the alert.
11.In the Sample Data Every section, specify the amount and the unit of measure for the update interval in the Interval box and the Units box, respectively.
In the Action tab of the dialog box for the alert, shown in Figure 14-12, select
when an alert is triggered as described in Table 14-5-In the Schedule tab of the dialog box for the alert, configure the options as shown for counter logs.
14. Click OK.
Because there are many counters, monitoring all counters affects processing time and is not a practical solution.
For a description of a particular counter, click the name of the counter from the list, and then click Explain.
Click Add. When you are finished adding counters, click Close.
10. Back in the General tab, in the Sample Data Every section, specify the amount and the unit of measure for the update interval in the Interval box and the Units box, respectively.
Sampling should be frequent 70-270 practice test when monitoring over a short period. Similarly, for long term planning and analysis, log for a longer period and set the update interval accordingly.
