This weekend my mother and sister visited Chicago to help me celebrate my Midwest bridal shower. In addition to having a super-fun girls weekend I finally got the show them the White by Vera Wang gown from David’s Bridal that I will wear on my wedding day. They’d only seen the pictures I posted on my CaterBid blog a few weeks ago .

I picked up the dress from my local David’s Bridal a week ago and never bothered opening the garment bag myself. And I’m glad I waited to see my gown until this weekend because I got to share the first look with the most important women in my life. Of course I remember loving my gown. But to see it again with my Maid of Honor and mother was truly special.

I forgot how much fabric this gown is made of. The hangar was heavy and the garment bag bulged at the bottom like an upside down mushroom. When I finally revealed the dress, I heard more “Ooooh”s than I was expecting. A few even came from my own mouth.

What did they think? They were equally in love my Davids Bridal ...
... gown as I was. In fact, my mother was stunned. She hadn’t been to a Davids Bridal in a few years. She was incredulous that this elegant work of art was so accessible to every day brides. My mother asked a few times how much it cost. And even though Oprah hooked it up for free she was stunned to hear the sticker price because it looks so “expensive”.
As the bride to be, I was pleasantly reminded of how opalescent my dress looks under different lights. My wedding will rely on gold and amber lighting to create an intimate vibe for the ceremony. I can’t wait to see how my dress will pick up the different colors of our wedding palate. Even more, I love how the tulle all around my gown feels a little unfinished. As my David’s Bridal consultant explained, the unfinished tulle is “classic Vera Wang” – it’s how she combines edginess with romance to exceed the dreams of modern brides.

How can one dress embody all these concepts? You’ll have to wait and see. I get married two months from today. I’m so excited and grateful for all the wonderful people in my life who are helping me make this wedding unforgettable.
Oh, and in case you brides were wondering…it’s kind of an unspoken rule that “you don’t veil Vera”….her masterpieces are meant to be the primary attraction.
