2020 Is Almost Here. Is Your Rcra-regulated Facility Meeting The Epa’s Vision?
In 2002, the EPA published a report titled “Beyond RCRA: Waste and Materials Management in the Year 2020.” The report was the product of research conducted by a state and EPA workgroup, and it outlined a roadmap for society to move toward a more sustainable method of resource management. It also gave specific goals for cleaning up contamination at Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) regulated facilities.
The findings outlined in the report have helped build a framework for government and the private sector in their waste management practices. The main goals of the 2020 Vision are:
1. Reduce waste and increase the efficient and sustainable use of resources
2. Prevent exposures to humans and ecosystems from the use of hazardous chemicals
3. Manage wastes and clean up chemical releases in a safe, environmentally sound manner
