Maintenance in the defence forces is an ongoing process. It has to be done routinely as well as when the need arises. While field level maintenance, as the name suggests, is done during an operation and involves limited repairs so as to continue the functioning at that point of time. The field maintenance can be further regrouped as intermediate and organizational. Intermediate maintenance looks after any contingency arising during the operations while organizational maintenance is carried out routinely by all the units on the day to day basis to ensure smooth functioning of the equipments.

The aim of the dod maintenance symposium is to build an atmosphere which assists the attendees in sharing the information which is relevant, in identifying the critical areas, in discussing the vitally important topics and increasing their awareness of the initiatives of the dod maintenance.
