There are many brands and types of diabetes testing supplies available that meet the needs of the people with diabetes who are using them. Whether you control your diabetes with diet and exercise, pills or need injections there are options for you. The BD syringe is a popular brand and has many types of syringes and needles available depending on the amount of insulin used, the person's body mass index and if you're an adult, teen or child. Another choice you may have is what lancets you prefer. Lancets are the tiny needles that you use to obtain the small sample of blood for the blood glucose monitor's test strip.

One Touch ultrasoft lancets are targeted for those with sensitive skin. They are finer than other lancets and would NOT be recommended for those people with diabetes who have tough skin from maybe doing a lot ...
... of physical work, exercising with their hands, such as lifting weight, etc.
Years ago there weren't many choices for your diabetes care. There were one or two classes of pills to help to lower your blood sugar, few, if any, "sugar free" or "no sugar added" or "low or net carb" foods and not many types of insulin to choose from.

The choices of meters were few and far between and most of them took a large sample of blood and you could not touch the target it needed to land on. It would take a longer time for the person to see the reading. However, consider how difficult it was to control diabetes before the blood glucose monitors were available! Test strips were for urine only and the blood sugar had to be around 300 mg/dL before the urine strips would indicate any problem. If you think back even further, before 1922 there was no insulin to give to people with diabetes.

Although there is presently no cure for diabetes, the care that is available to each person with diabetes far exceeds what some of us remember. However, there is still a lot of work and thought involved in controlling blood sugar levels. So many factors affect your blood sugar: food, activity, stress, medication, hormone secretion and even sleep. As human beings, we are very busy and have a lot of other issues to face daily, therefore, the thought involved in diabetes care becomes challenging since it adds to what we already have going on in our lives.
